DIY Lipsticks using... Crayons?!?

I had seen tonnes of videos online of people making their own lipsticks using crayons and I'll be honest.. I thought it was pretty crazy. You can see some of these videos here. The ingredients are pretty simple so I decided I'd give them a go just to see how they'd turn out.

To make these lipsticks you need:

  • Crayons - I used a pack of Crayola crayons (24) because they're supposedly non toxic.

  • A frying pan or a saucepan.

  • Something to melt the crayon in when it's in the frying pan/saucepan. I bought small stainless steel pots in Dealz for €1.49 for 6 and they worked perfectly!

  • Coconut oil

  • Vanilla essence - You don't need vanilla essence but I used a tiny drop for each lipstick to make sure they didn't have a waxy taste.

  • Something to put the lipsticks in - I used a pill/tablet case that I bought in a pound shop for €1.50.
  • Some water.

To begin, pick the colours that you want to make into lipsticks and remove the paper from them (you can also mix colours if you like). When you have finished removing all the paper from the crayons, add some water to a frying pan or a saucepan and leave it warm up. Next, place your pot into the water (make sure that the water level isn't above the top of the pot). Break up your chosen crayon and place it into the pot to melt. Add about 1½ tsp of coconut oil per crayon and a tiny drop of vanilla essence to the pot. Stir until all the ingredients melt together and then pour into your chosen container. Leave your lipsticks to one side to cool or place them in the fridge for a minute or two to set.
And there you have it, your very own crayon lipsticks! Below are some of the colours that I made and I'll admit I'm pretty impressed.

I better say thank's to my sister for helping me make them and for being a wonderful model too!
The lipsticks obviously have a sheer finish because of the coconut oil and you can easily build up the product for a more intense color if thats the look you're going for. Although these lipsticks don't stay very well on your lips (obviously) it's a handy idea if you're stuck for a certain colour for a fancy dress party, for Halloween, or even if you're just experimenting with different makeup looks!
These lipsticks were so fun to make and myself and my sister had great fun trying them all on! Crayon lipsticks definitely get a thumbs up from me :)
